According to our friend, Choppy Cuts is the best place locally for hair extensions so we went to check it out. The 2009 Christmas number 1 winners Rage Against The Machine played a fantastic thank you gig at Finsbury Park in June. The event was brilliant, however the night was spoiled by the stay in the Majestic Hotel.

The full booking fee was taken from my bank account before the event was any where near close to happening. After enquiring about the charge, I was told that this amount was non-refundable, despite hotel booking websites saying that the hotel has a cancellation policy of â¬Snoon the day before arrivalâ¬. On the Majestic Hotel website, there is no mention of this what so ever.

The room its self was very disappointing. There was minimal room for three people, and it looked as though the previous three occupants had not had their left-overâ¬"s removed. The bathroom was full of hairs and the toilet its self was in need of a good cleaning.

Breakfast the following morning could have been a redeeming feature if it did not arrive cold.

The Hotel staff were welcoming, yet very slow to respond to any requests or queries, and when informed about the room and breakfast were less than enthusiastic to assist in any way.

This beautiful little place attracts customers from around the country and it is easy to see why. This tremendously stocked shop sells a huge range of Sylvanian Families - even a non-collector could while away time admiring the little figurines (well, at least a female non-collector). It's perfect for people like me to have a reminisce about a childhood spent playing with the animals - I can rarely walk past without ducking in for a few moments. Possibly because the shop itself is done out like a Sylvanian Family shop - green striped awnings and all. Finsbury Superstore is one of those remarkable stores that seem at least ten times the size once you get inside. Outside all the fresh produce is piled high (as with most of these places, the quality depends on the day, but it's mostly very good) and inside all the dry goods are piled even higher. Huge ranges of every product imaginable (at least 40 types of biscuit for example) can be found inside. It's particularly good for fresh herbs and salad too. Arsenal Wine is a relatively standard off license which are two a penny round these parts. However, this is because they are great, dependable little shops to have around when you realise you're out of cumin, toothpaste or, heaven forbid, Red Stripe. Most of the beers are on offer at six cans for a fiver and there are some okay spirits behind the counter too. Mr Arsenal Wine is a charming man too, and where would we be without him? The Park is probably the most decent place in the area to find a cooked breakfast if you're not in the mood for a (superior) Turkish version. Relatively average little cafe really, but it does its job well - good plates of well cooked food presented quickly with plenty of tea and juice. A bit of an odd place, this, but most definitely in a charming way. Cats is a sprawling place filled with bizarre carved wooden furniture - indeed, some of the tables come with their own lanterns hanging from the archway built around them, and the chairs are rather ostentatious - but rather than being tacky, it's all good fun.

The food is good and fresh too - full of flavour unlike some of the thai places springing up across London. The special pineapple rice dish sums Cats up fairly well. A pretty decent and cheap Mexican place on the Blackstock Road. It's twinned with the equally pretty decent pizza place across the road (pizzadelique) which hints at its nature as a not-too-authentic eatery. However, this is of little concern once plates piled high are ferried towards you apace. The enormous smoked chicken burritos are ideal for the ravenous (though you will be warned about going for the large option). A superb butchers right in the middle of Green Lanes selling excellent quality meats. The staff are superb too and can offer some great cooking tips - from preparing a lamb shoulder to serving up some of their great chipolatas with puy lentils. It's not too cheap but worth money for the quality, which can slip at some of the butchers' nearby. The grocery side of the store stocks the best selection of feta, olives and hummus (including their own brands) as well as plenty of fresh veg and the usual canned and jarred suspects. The real star is the bakery though - the freshest, most delicious bread made all day long; the savoury pastries piled up in the glass counters; the sublime baklava to buy by the kilo.The best grocery and bakery around. A relative newcomer to the Green Lanes strip, already holding its own in some style. Hala is more of a restaurant than some of its peers and always bursting at the seams. The food is perfectly executed and portions are more than generous - go with a group and share round some special mixed grills over bottles of Efes. One of the fine, fine kebab joints on Green Lanes. Busy and brightly lit - hardly relaxing, but still immensely friendly. The owners will fetch you plenty of Turkish tea while you wait for your monstrous kebab to be cooked on the equally monstrous barbecue. Antepliler is a legendary spot and rightly so. One of the only real restaurants in the area (most places are more takeaway or meze affairs), always busy, always turning out fantastic food. They don't take bookings but somehow will still manage to fit in your party of ten when you arrive on a Saturday evening. This is a place for feasting on superb grilled meats, salads, soups, stews and, of course, lahmacuns. The entire front of the restaurant is given over to the preparation of these Turkish pizzas from scratch - dough stretching through to baking in the enormous wood-fired oven dome. We are certainly not at a loss for great Turkish places round these parts, but Yildiz was something of a favourite haunt when I lived straight opposite. The shish kebabs are the stars of the show here as far as I'm concerned - a portion comes with fragrant rice, salad and plenty of bread too - all freshly made and for about 8 quid. Brilliant quality vegetarian indian food at ridiculously cheap prices. The kind of place you can go to when it's actually cheaper than going out and buying the ingredients. Between Â£3 and Â£4 per dish. Yet, unlike Wetherspoons and the like, here the food is absolutely superb. The kind of vegetarian food to turn the most hardened carnivore.

It's an odd set-up to be sure - write down your order on a slip of paper and take it up to place it with the chefs - something that isn't made entirely obvious by the rather aloof staff on your first visit! Something of an anchor point in the local area occupying a prominent position at the road intersections. However unprepossessing from the outside it's actually rather good inside with plenty of space, a friendly atmos and a lot of Guinness. The Fullback deserves praise for the surely most imaginative reaction to the smoking ban seen in London. The garden was last year transformed into something of a treehouse for grown-ups - a multi-level deck with benches built into the walls. Has to be seen! There's plenty of merit inside too - lots of indoor rooms including a beer-hall style section for sports fans, a couple of cosy fairy-light lit rooms for friends and couples and a rather good Thai kitchen. The usual suspects behind the bar alongside a couple of great local wines.
